Corn

Corn is the only grain that has come from America to Europe. He used to grow in gardens. The grains were used as polenta or for other pastries. Today, almost all corn is used as feed corn for the animals.

The old varieties from the Valais have very different colored grains, from light yellow to dark red. There are about 30 varieties preserved. In the Upper Valais, the corn is also called Märweiz.
